Character (group presentation)

Me and Charlotte decided last Thursday that we would have some characters to go along with the ‘Introducing the team’ section of the PowerPoint presentation. So, I was the one that was going to draw them. My first idea was to have us be ducks, to match the theme, however I found that it didn’t work as I started to draw a Charlotte duck.  So instead I decided to create a small cartoon character of each of us. I made them by finding a photo of each of us where we are facing forward, so that I can show the face properly. I then drew the characters off of the photos. As I drew them they became more detailed then I originally wanted them, however I really like the way they look now.

Meeting 02/04/2019

Jo wasn’t in again today, so me and Charlotte decided to work individually on our work. We did however decide that I would make some characters for me, jo and charlotte for the presentation.  Posters I started to make the posters, I drew some basic mock ups and went off of them. I wanted to make the posters look quite graphical to match the style of the book. I did the first one to look like lots of speech bubbles, to show that the app is about talking to your children. For the second poster I wanted to show a family looking at the app, this was to show that the app is based around family. The third poster I decided to have it in the shape of a book, and show a screenshot of the app, then have some writing on the right side of the book. I decided that the backgrounds for each of the posters was going to be the same shade of blue, so they will look more like a series of posters.  For the posters I wanted to put some writing on of them, however I found it incredibly...

Drawing the backgrounds

I wanted to keep the backgrounds quite simple as it matches the rest of the aesthetic of the book. To make the effect of water I did a light blue background then drew scribbles in different blues, then changed the opacity so that they almost blended into the background. This was just to show a difference in color tones throughout the water. I also added some white scribbles and changed the opacity, to add highlights to the water to make it look as if it is reflective.  Then I decided to add some grass to the bottom of the screen because it looked too empty without anything at the bottom to frame the image. I drew the grass by changing the thickness of the brush then changed the color with each stroke, this created the effect of it being lots of different grass instead of it looking very two dimensional.  I decided to make a lily pad hospital because I wanted to show that Bubbles went to see doctors enough but without showing an overly realistic imagery of it. So, I ...

Drawing the ducks

When drawing the ducks, I wanted them to match with the logo ducks, so I used the shape that I used for the logo and modified it for each of the characters. Before I started drawing I had the idea of personalising each duck, with clothing or accessories. I also wanted to add a name tag to each duck because this will help the children to recognise and differentiate each duck. For Bubbles, I wanted to show that she was the one that had cancer. But it would be difficult to show cancers actual side effects, so I decided to show that she was sick by having her looking injured. I decided upon having a sling over her wing, and a plaster on her head. The plaster says her name on it. I chose for her to be light blue as she is the youngest duck and the other child ducks go darker as they get older, this is so the children can see the progression in age through the colours.  With Waddles we didn’t set a gender for them, so I had to make their accessory gender neutral. I found it real...

Story and notes

Story I decided to write the story.  How we deal with the ripple. Puddles, Waddles, Bubbles   Waddles is middle child, Bubbles (Girl) youngest, and Puddles (Boy) is the oldest. Bubbles has cancer. They may not be able to play anymore but they still want to be near you. The ducks wing may be broken but they can still swim. Hello, I’m called Waddles. (Close up of Waddles then when clicked on goes to the next page where the pond is) And this is the pond where I live with my family. (Show pond) This is my mummy. And this is my daddy. (Mum comes up, then dad comes up when mum is clicked on) I have one older brother called Puddles. And one younger sister called Bubbles. (Same as mum and dad but with the child ducks) Bubbles needs extra help and attention, because she is poorly. (Zooms in on Bubbles duck and shows she has an injured wing) She needs to see doctors a lot. And can’t play as much. (Show image of Bubbles at doctors, then ...
